\"\"The binary system is a simple continuous day-night experience in earth. The complete day of 24 hours is a zero \u201c0\u201d because every sunrise is like a reset. The daytime is numerical \u201c1\u201d and relates to the Sun who creates the day by appearing in the eastern horizon. The nighttime is numerical \u201c2\u201d and relates to the Moon who is seen after the Sun sets in the western horizon.<\/p>\n

1 The power and authority of the Sun is seen from sunrise [East] as all the stars of the sky rush to hide. He claims the suzerainty of this solar system, and none can dislodge him. He is the greatest tapasv\u012b (\u0924\u092a\u0938\u094d\u0935\u0940) of all time and continues to burn with pure spiritual energy.<\/p>\n

2 Moon gets empowered by the authority of the Sun. it does not have its own light and only throws its weight based on the reflected light from the Sun. And she takes control of the night domain when the Sun sleeps.<\/p>\n

\"\"In the binary system used by chips and computers we see that since the lagna with \u015bunya weight (zero) cannot handle anything, the Moon takes over the lagna and continues to feed it and keep it alive. Since the Moon \u2192 Lagna, we say 2 \u2192 0, and the binary system becomes 0-1 or a two number system.<\/p>\n

Two places follow the binary system \u2013 the sunrise and sunset signs as they hold both the day and night energy. Interesting to know that when we split these two sunrise-east and sunset-west, into two parts, we have a zodiac with 14 signs and these symbolise the 14 realms of Brahm\u0101, the Creator.

The navagraha and lagna constitute the ten variables of the decimal system. In this system, the navagraha represent the nine numbers from 1 to 9 while the zero represents the ego (self-identity) called lagna (\u0932\u0917\u094d\u0928), which is our individual intelligence. This is also called \u2018\u015bunya\u2019 literally empty, void or numerical zero \u201c0\u201d and is the subject of one of the greatest books on spirituality by Sri Achyutananda called \u015aunya Sa\u1e41hit\u0101.<\/p>\n

\nThis is the clearest early Sanskrit statement of the base\u201110 positional system: each digit\u2019s value depends on its position, increasing by powers of ten.
\nIn Jyoti\u1e63a, the decimal system is not just a counting method\u2014it is the mathematical backbone that makes astronomical calculation possible. Every core operation in Siddh\u0101nta astronomy depends on place\u2011value, powers of ten, and decimal fractions.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udcdcMean motions (madhyama-gati)<\/strong>: Planetary mean motions are expressed in degrees\u2013minutes\u2013seconds, a pure decimal structure (each place is \u00d760, but the number itself is decimal).

\nEven though the subdivision is sexagesimal, the numerical representation is decimal, enabling precise tabulation.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udcdcEpicyclic corrections (manda & \u015b\u012bghra)<\/strong>: All siddh\u0101nta compute both (a)\u00a0manda-phala (slow anomaly which is like \u015bani ~ the slow moving Saturn) and (b) \u015b\u012bghra-phala (fast anomaly which is like chandra ~ the rushing Moon). These require multiplication, division, addition\/subtraction and interpolation which is done in decimal positional notation.

Even n\u0101\u1e0d\u012b calculations are all expressed in decimal numerals in siddh\u0101ntic texts.

Without decimal place\u2011value, pa\u00f1c\u0101\u1e45ga computation is impossible.
\nInterpolation (antara-ga\u1e47ita)<\/strong> uses decimal fractions to compute sunrise, moonrise, ascendant (lagna), transit times. Jyoti\u1e63a uses linear interpolation, which requires decimal fractions.

Most modern historians who only believe in written texts and books say that Brahmagupta (628 CE) formalized zero, enabling multi\u2011digit longitudes. However, many centuries before that the \u1e5b\u1e63i used \u015bunya and decimal system. These pa\u00f1c\u0101\u1e45ga have ephemeris tables and iterative corrections.
